Technique developed at the University of Michigan-histotripsy- provides a noninvasive alternative to surgery, chemotherapy and radiation treatments for cancer. Histotripsy works by using targeted ultrasound waves for killing tumor cells. Beyond tumor destruction, the technique may also activate the immune system against cancer cells, as seen in a few preclinical studies involving rodents. If the technique lives up to its promise, this could transform cancer care beyond recognition
Yay. I hope it can apply to other types of cancer.
It seems that it probably may do so.
Could be a very helpful supplement or replacement for radiation in some cases. Definitely sounds like a promising tool.
I feel like I heard about this being in development from a quack book back in the later 90s (sound waves being used to destroy tumors, that is)… amazing to hear that it’s real, and works!
