I don’t understand why people turn a blind eye to this. Am I naive? Yeah, probably. Am I missing the shades of grey in a many layered and complicated geopolitical situation? Certainly. But what, and I cannot stress this enough, the fuck? How does this continue to be ok?
I don’t understand why people turn a blind eye to this.
Because western media generally approves of the genocidal colonialist project we call “Israel.” That’s pretty much it.
Manifest Destinty 2.0
The West is strongly pro-Israel and if you’re against the fascist regime in Israel people simply assume you’re an anti-semite, so at some point people just don’t give a damn anymore, especially because a lot of people using that term don’t really know what they’re talking about. I don’t understand how people can be so simplistic in their thinking as to equate “I’m against colonial settlers” with “I don’t like jews and they shouldn’t exist” but here we are.
In the end, it’s just brown-skinned people suffering and people in Israel have already accepted the reality of armed IDF soldiers being everywhere and looking through their stuff. And don’t get me started on the surveillance capabilities of Israel.
Cynicism doesn’t really help anyone but at least it’s a way to cope. Sigh.
Because Israel is part of the same genocidal white settler project as the US and Canada and Australia. Their geopolitical situation is the same, they’re just closer to the beginning.
How is this a democracy, someone please explain.
The same way Apartheid South Africa was a democracy. You conveniently remove the ‘undesirables’ from the system, and your colony of immigrants and their descendants becomes a “vibrant democracy”.
You conveniently remove the ‘undesirables’ from the system, and your colony of immigrants and their descendants becomes a “vibrant democracy”.
As someone who grew up during the Apartheid-years, I have to say… that’s exactly how it was.
So… like the US, Canada and so on?
Yes but Israel is a newer settler colony so the time-frames are different. Appropriation of the land is nearly complete in Turtle Island and Australia, but it’s very much ongoing in Israel. Also apartheid is no longer law in the US, but the racist fundamentals and settler colonial nature of the state remain.
Yeah, basically with the US we are at the part where everyone forgot that and we must “embrace” it now.
