Fun fact: very few bees actually have barbed stingers that pull out and kill them when they sting something.
Honeybees do, and as the most familiar bee to most people, it has created this idea it’s normal for all bees.
Bumblebees and carpenter bees can sting you multiple times without dying because they have pin-straight stingers that pull clean, but thankfully they are quite docile little guys!

A bees first line of defense is to fucking kick you
When I was young I was stung many times by bumblebees, and pretty much every time it was because I was running around barefoot while there were clovers in bloom and wasn’t looking. Thought the “they can only sting once” thing was true because they never tried to sting a second time, just flew away.
fun fact, the stinger only comes out when they sting something with soft flesh. when used against other insect exoskeletons, they can sting as many times as they want
