It’s bad enough that pedestrians and cyclists are being killed at an alarming rate in the GTA, but hit-and-runs seem to be the default.
More seriously, with the increasing popularity of tall motor vehicles like SUVs and pickup trucks, curbs don’t provide nearly as much safety to pedestrians as they used to.
I wish we regulated vehicles better so that curbs remained useful at protecting people.
At this point, even WALLS designed to protect bike lanes are being hopped!
Cars just don’t belong near people, it seems.
Tax vehicles by tire diameter or height of the driver’s seat. My old Ranger can fit as much in the bed as a modern goofy F-150 or Ram but it’s at least a foot shorter and wont turn a sedan into plastic confetti during a crash.
But was he wearing a helmet? High visibility clothing? Did he stay on the sidewalk defensively? Did he look both ways? Did he have front and rear lights?
Safety is a two way street, you know.
I think we should mandate pedestrians to have a license and pay taxes. They are constantly violating traffic laws, anyway. They deserve it.
If people keep insisting on being beside the street, they are going to get killed. How dumb can you be?
