This is the Guide in question.
Is this the install order: proxmox > ubuntu server vm > docker container > portainer container?
Yup! Exactly right. Weirdly, I just did this exact guide. I already had the Proxmox and a template of Ubuntu, but the rest, yup! I am running a pihole Docker, and a SearxNG, and they both work great, on OAF hardware. I meant to write EoL, but OAF works.
Thanks for the clarification. I cobbled together a server pc that is 14 years old now and eol. It has 8gb of ddr3 ram and a 1c 2p 3ghz processor but has an eco psu which is nice. The container efficiency will really help lol. To begin with Im going to drop jellyfin and ubiquiti management on it; then do some searching for a possible NAS solution that works with jellyfin decently.
On a low powered server like this it is probably better to install Ubuntu (or Debian) directly and not use Proxmox.
Your probably right but I want the experience.
I have Jellyfin working on it as it’s own VM in Proxmox. It has a long delay before a stream starts, but playback is fine. No complaints. It accesses my media as a mount off of a different PC over Samba.
