Using Firefox and uBlock Origin, and following uBlock’s instructions re: resetting and updating. Getting timeouts and popups from YT regardless.

Sadly it doesn’t work for me anymore (and yes I have followed uBlock’s instructions).

1. My old phone had reached ‘thoroughly shagged out’ levels of wear and I needed a replacement.

2. iPhone seemed to be an easy to use and well polished interface (and it has been for the most part, despite this back button weirdness).

3. iPhones by most accounts have really good build quality now.

4. I’m absolutely done with Google and their data harvesting ways. Apple are much better, and sure they no doubt record usage habits for their own purposes, there’s little evidence I’ve seen that they sell that data on. Also, I cannot be arsed to fuck around with GrapheneOS, I like privacy, but I’m not militant about it, and still want access to apps.

5. I like the aesthetic.

6. I never had an iPhone, and if I’m ever to have a valid opinion on them, I ought to use one instead of blindly following a brand and repeating second hand opinions.

7. For similar reasons to 6, I want to try a Mac at some point soon as well, and iPhone has some neat tricks with it.

8. The camera quality is fantastic.

While I came from outside a walled garden, I used maybe two apps which had to be sideloaded. The only one I really miss is newpipe, but there’s browser based solutions for YouTube. I’ve just reached a point in my life where I want my phone to ‘just work’ and I don’t care about being a power user, least of all on my phone.

Recently switched from Android. What’s pissing me off the most is the back button on every app being on the top left. They chose the least accessible place to put the most common action.

True true, I just specifically took issue with it always having been run by bastards. (I know it’s a meme template, but I just wanted to point to evidence that there is hope that not everything we use has always been yoked with pure greed. Call it a cope, IDC.)

I wouldn’t say Reddit always has been owned by a malicious entity, Aaron Swartz was a cool guy. And if you’re telling me a man who freely distributed thousands of needlessly paywalled research papers is a some kind of arch capitalist, then there’s no helping you.

It has literally never worked.

You don’t have to eradicate all of them, just each year have the richest person in the world executed. Only one. Watch all these billionaires race to give their money away and put it into philanthropic endeavours.

Of course, if any of them are found to be evading or hiding the true extent of their wealth, execution. And money invested in their own organisations/businesses would also of course be counted as theirs.
