  • When doing world rankings, to me it’s a better visual to compare each US region/state to countries as the size of the US is a big factor. Each region has its own distinction. I live in the Pacific Northwest which is (I believe) comparable to most developed countries. If you’re in the southeast, the rankings drop and your probably better off in Eastern Europe. The Northeast US (I.e. New England) is also comparable to most developed countries but the Midwest is moving more towards a theocratic style of localized governance. The US isn’t in a position I’m any region to compete with Norway, Finland, Denmark, etc but that’s why they are ranked at the top.

  • I can only answer the first question about visibility since I read a response previously on it. Basically, the overgrowth moves quick so you can’t see anything with plant coverage pretty quickly. Also rain and snow cover tracks and flatten out the soil that would have been disturbed. Comes down to, can’t see any of them unless you are up close and personal…and even then you need to be trained to spot them. As for blowing them up, they’ve been placed everywhere by the Russians. You can’t explode a few thousand square kilometers (I mean short of doing something crazy).

  • I’m in Shanghai a few times a year on business and really have to double check that I have multiple VPN options available before leaving. Had a coworker have his phone checked at customs but we always bring dedicated “China-only” cell phones and laptops. They seem to be getting more on top of crushing outside communications but I always get at least one connection working when there. Last time it was an ssh tunnel to an AWS instance that I used to route traffic. Before that it was ExpressVPN which gave me trouble on the last visit. China is playing whack a mile with the VPNs.
