I am more or less both, because I’m piss poor living in a rich country. I quite literally cannot afford to have a high emission lifestyle. I never owned a car, I never went on a plane, I don’t have warm water, I had like 2 pants for the past 20 years, slept on the floor for more than half a decade, etc. etc. I simply can’t play consumerism like most of you all.
More importantly though, I’m for very radical climate policies which obviously would be seen as extremism in our societies.

Your opinion articles boil down to “instead we should do even more than we did before”, which is cute, but exactly the opposite of what’s happening, making it incredibly ironic. Real climate action, what we’d actually need to do, would affect everyone even more. You’d see an even larger rise in the far right and climate denial. But keep doing your token contributions while thinking there’s still some magic way of fixing things.

I definitely want gpu support. Although I struggle with that somewhat on Koboldcpp as well where I can’t use ROCm, only Vulkan. Unsure where the difference is performance wise.
I’d like to try the other UIs too, but the problem is that Automatic1111 is where the majority of additional plugins can be found.

Tried to install Automatic1111 for Stable Diffusion in an Arch distrobox, and despite editing the .sh file to point to the older tarballed Python version as advised on Github, it still tells me it uses the most up to date one that’s installed system wide and thus can’t install pytorch. And that’s pretty much where my personal knowledge ends, and apparently that of those (i.e. that one person) on Github. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
Always funny when people urge you to ask for help but no one ends up actually helping.
We were on a 3 degree path BEFORE Trump got re-elected, with many signs pointing towards us highly overestimating the amount of time we had as well. The West was supposed to carry the burden of the developing countries in regards to emissions, since we were the ones emitting the historic majority of it already, but we didn’t, we already failed at that task. And now with Trump the US will go in full reverse mode. The rest of the world quite literally cannot compensate for that. It’s basically over now. There’s no “time to buy” anymore. And for what anyway? We don’t need more time, we need significant climate action being taken. But no one actually wants that. Not companies, not politicians, not voters. People who do are a tiny fringe movement of “extremists”.
As if that matters anymore.

There’s plenty of free ways to use LLMs, including having the models run locally on your computer instead of an online service, which vary greatly in quality and privacy. There’s some limited free ones too, but imo they’re all shit and extremely stupid, in the literal sense - you get even better results with a small model on your computer. They can be fun, especially if they work well, but the magic kinda goes away when you understand more how they actually work, which also makes all the little “mistakes” of them very obvious and that kind of kills the immersion and with that the fun of it.
A good chat can indeed feel pretty good if you’re lonely, but you kinda have to understand that they are not real, and that goes not just for potentially bad chats, but even for the good ones. An LLM is not a replacement for real people, nothing an LLM outputs is real. And yes, if you have issues with addictions, then you may want to keep your distance. I remember how people got addicted to regular chat rooms back in the early days of the world wide web, now imagine those people with a machine that can roleplay any scenario you want to play with it. If you don’t know your limits then that can be very bad indeed, even outside of taking them too seriously.
I can generally only advice to just not take them seriously. They’re tools for entertainment, toys. Nothing more, nothing less.
To be fair, they mention that the chats were also “hypersexualized” - but of course not without mention that the bots would be basically pedos if they’d be actually real adult humans. lol
Hence why I consider articles like this part of the “AI” hysteria. They completely gloss over this fact, only mention it once at the beginning, with no further details where the gun came from and rather shove the blame to the LLM.
