This is wonderful. Churches are one place where the 1st Amendment is so mighty that even the current Supreme Court would be reluctant to weaken it for the sake of politics; they can teach whatever they like and Ron DeSantis can’t do a damn thing about it, and I hope they take full advantage of that.
(Perhaps some progressive white churches might join them in teaching about Black history and gender issues and other stuff students are no longer allowed to learn about in school)

I hope they make it - snow leopards seem to be in the gray area in between endangered species which humans can + will spare no expense to keep alive, like pandas and kakapo, and endangered species that are almost certainly done for, like the Vaquita and the Javan rhinoceros.

But since you’re accusing me of being a shill anyway: yes, nuclear power is clean and safe and our refusal to embrace it has cost us decades of progress in reducing carbon emissions + is continuing to do so now. The anti-nuclear lobby has a tremendous amount of blood on its hands and I’m not the least bit ashamed to be on the opposing side to them.
So we’re currently at the ‘apology that actually makes things worse’ phase, which means just a few more days until ‘unconditional surrender but even so nobody will ever trust you again’

Brown coal output 8.2023: 5422.0 GWh
Black coal output 8.2023: 2049.2 GWh
So if you, y’know, hadn’t shut down those nuclear plants, you’d be burning 1/4 as much coal as you actually are.
Germany of course is the country that recently shut down a bunch of nuclear plants + temporarily (we hope) replaced them with coal.

To me this suggests that he first thought it would seem hip and contrarian to support his trans daughter, then he realized that actually the people he considers hip and contrarian are all about hating on trans kids now, and so swiftly pivoted to doing that. (I don’t imagine he had any strong feelings about his daughter as a person either way - it’s not like he was around for her childhood changing diapers or whatever)

This whole Zombie Tory business has me feeling good about the US’ biennial Congressional elections - a party that’s lost its mandate shouldn’t get to carry on running things for years and years.
I don’t want to pay once and own it forever, I want to pay once and then in a few years when it’s gotten buggy or incompatible or whatever I pay you some more money for an upgrade. If I use it a lot maybe I pay you more often, if I use it rarely maybe I pay less often, if I’ve got a lot of bills this month maybe I put it off a few months.
That’s really it - I’ll happily give you more money occasionally if I keep using it, but the burden of stretching that revenue so that you can make your payroll every 2 weeks ought to fall on you, not on me, and if you sit on your ass and barely make any changes for a year I shouldn’t be stuck paying you the same monthly fee while you do that.
In addition to being good policy, this is going to be a lifeline for women in border states. (and will I suspect be much harder to police or prosecute - it’s very, very difficult to hold somebody legally liable in one country for an act committed in another)
I mean it’s not like you’d catch a US government official carrying around a Huawei phone either - fair is fair.
