I’m saying people won’t be represented. Not just disappointed. Representation is important. That’s my argument. I said it very clearly. Representation isn’t problematic and my argument is literally that I think representation is more important than the risk of cultural appropriation and exclusion. Tucking away minorities to save them from cultural appropriation isn’t it. Its infantalizing. Also, we can fight for inclusion and representation and still call out cultural appropriation when it occurs.

So then they should never have the chance to perform their sports at the Olympics or on an international stage? Representation matters. It wasn’t just white ladies break dancing at the Olympics.

I think its a way to argue that sports developed by certain groups shouldn’t be allowed in the Olympics because then those who didn’t traditionally develop said sport might compete in them. It results in exclusion, which is worse than the risk of cultural appropriation IMO.

Hmm, it seemed to be a problem with subsistence crops too. We were working on black rot resistance in sukuma wiki which isn’t a cash crop. We were working on resistance specifically because it reduced the need to rotate crops. People could grow it more continuously without risking yield loss.

Years ago I went to Kenya and Tanzania to asses some fields for trials of new cultivars my group was developing. There were a lot of issues with people seeing a yearly decrease in crop yield. But the major issue was actually the lack of crop rotation causing a buildup of disease in the soil which was weakening the plants each year.

I don’t know this guy or his field. And, not carefully fertilizing fields can cause root burn for sure. But poor agricultural yield in Africa is definitely impacted by poor crop rotation.

Actually, many parks do allow drinking. If you check the cities bylaws, they often state explicit locations where open containers are allowed and it often tends to be the major town parks.

I’m curious as to how they even define and abaya. Like… Other than being a loose fitting dress made of a square piece of cloth, theres not much to define it. Dresses that fit the description are also worn by “westerners.”

That’s fair, but people are experiencing no rate limits on certain apps and their bots are still working is what I am saying. As in, some api tokens have not been revoked. It hasn’t been done completely yet, only in a targeted way for some apps it seems. Though, I actually haven’t seen any developers say their api was revoked from them, only that they pulled out early as to not risk some weirdness with possible charges.

The apps I am talking about working are not instances where users have inserted their own api tokens and do jot have api exceptions.

Go over to the infinity subreddit. It’s just a ton of people asking why the app still works completely fine without a subscription or charged api update.

So, I think my original point stands. Many apps and bots work just fine because the api keys have not been pulled and api rate limits haven’t been put in effect since reddit didn’t make their own deadline to uniformly manage either thing.

Weird. Several apps, such as infinity (plus others reporting ones that don’t plan to go subscription based are working still - boost, stealth, rif when logged out, and relay and someone said their bot was still chugging along), still work fine with no subscription. That, plus this post indicating that changes will over over the best few weeks, makes me feel like it’s not being revoked uniformly or smoothly.

It actually hasn’t. The api hasn’t been changed. Reddit is such a shit show they didn’t make their own deadline. Apps that didn’t take themselves down in advance still work.

Honestly, this decision wouldn’t probably impact future college attendees. But, there are other changes coming to federal borrowing that likely will. Income based repayment is being restructured and it’s looking pretty good.

However, this will probably hurt the economy. A lot of people are about to hit repayment at a period of high inflation. It’s not a great economy. And, if a lot of people decide to ignore their student loan bills a la 2008 financial crisis, were in for a global economic doozy.
