  • I feel like there’s a lot of variables here. I am making some assumptions here, but as an example, I don’t think the hospitals in Gaza would have things like multiple MRI’s or CT Scanners that you would find in more developed areas. Those things require a pretty large amount of power. I know a lot of hospitals in undeveloped regions often only have one, sometimes none at all.

I think the only thing that can give some perspective is how big the diesel tanks are at the hospital. How much does 300L fill them? If that’s like a quarter or less of their total capacity, then yea, that’s not enough. But if that fills them by over half, then I kind of get it. You can only deliver so much at a time if you don’t want trucks of fuel parked outside the hospital, which just seems like a bad idea for many reasons.

  • A lot of “control” based conspiracy theories are born out of fear. The world is a chaotic, messy place and the idea that NO ONE is truly at the helm and we’re all just stumbling through the world is absolutely terrifying to some people. It’s far more comforting for them to believe there is some evil cabal or secret organization pulling the strings and that THEY’RE the reason bad things happen; rather than accepting that the world is complicated and most of us are barely removed from monkeys throwing poo at each other.

  • If my rent goes from 1000 a month to 1500 a month from one year to the next, that’s 50% inflation. If it stays at that higher amount for a full year afterwards, that’s 0% inflation. But that doesn’t mean I’m suddenly living the good life. I just went a full year with my rent way higher than I used to pay, and my income did not increase proportionally. I am able to save less (if at all), can’t afford things I used to be able to, and feel just a little more desperate every month.

That’s why looking at year-over-year inflation is meaningless. It doesn’t reflect the long-term hardships that come from a sudden price spike that never goes back down.
