Like facebook, twitter, and reddit, where there is a concerted effort, that has people working on how to specifically target the people on each one, and understand the differences in their use, and users? No, of course not. Are there bots spreading national, and corporate, propaganda on lemmy? Yes. They are literally everywhere you can make posts. I am willing to bet there are tiny fora out there, with like 10 users, that occasionally sees bot spam.

Yeah, you have to have access to top secret documentation, and make that public, before you get in trouble with the government in the US, by talking about their actions. While a serious issue, it’s not very comparable to simply talking about something that happened, out in the open, that has video, and photo, evidence of it circulating all around the world, getting you in serious trouble with the government. We can even openly talk about what was on those documents, without being swept away by the federal government, now that it is public.
This is just another person who has sided with one evil, and will always whataboutism for them.
They are the US intelligence operation in the middle east. They are an attack dog for the things the US finds important, meaning they agree with us on economic operations, and will go to war to protect it. Israel, Saudi Arabia, etc. These are all just countries who are willing to actively work in the economic interests of the US as it benefits them. This allows the US access to their intel, to put military facilities in their countries, to use new weapons systems through their conflicts. They protect the standing of the petrodollar.
The US doesn’t give a shit if a tiny, powerless, economically insignificant population, or a thousand, get wiped out. Preserving US domination is more important to the US government, and states like Israel will kill anyone in pursuit of that status quo. The only people they would need to have black mail on are government actors who aren’t willing to support them, there are not a majority of those, yet.
This is a well known issue with refugees of hyper-authoritarian places. NK refugees discuss this a lot. Like the other person said, this is a well known phenomenon with freed prisoners, too. Basically you spent so much time conforming to a very, very, specific way of living, that you are stuck in that mind frame. Without a lot of therapy you are likely to be unable to adjust. Just like people who have been in abusive households their whole lives, yet return to them, because they can’t function, when they are in a freer circumstance.

China has been escalating its practice of economic imperialism for year now. They have been fortifying the waters around the islands they claim, but aren’t under their control. They have been running into more and more economic issues, and are not recovering from them as well as they had been. Given this, I do not for a second believe China will never get into the expansion game.

I was on reddit within their first year. It was very much like you just described the lemmy community. The posts were all linux, communism, libertarians, lgbtq, typical nerd media discussion (star trek/wars, dr who, etc), and fringe communities. However, when I started, there was no commenting. That changed a few months later, and there were no sub reddits so it was just like /all and that is it.
This type of community was exactly what I was expecting. Early 4chan was this too. It just seems that these are the people that adopt new social media, and websites, early.

if you are discussing short-term survive-ability, while waiting for rescue, then eating pickles is better than nothing. They will provide water, vitamins, electrolytes, etc. If you are discussing living off of pickles as a lifestyle, or prolonged diet option, then it isn’t enough.
You can totally make programs to scrape the internet for places that have posting functionality, crawl the scraped sites, and auto post. These already exist, and you can buy them, or get them shared to you from various sources. Most of these sites use template software to run their sites. It is not nearly as difficult as people might think to accomplish this. Bot traffic is 50% of internet traffic.
Is there a group somewhere, sitting in a government facility, working on how to best infiltrate Lemmy? I really doubt it. Do these places have general function bots that make it on to lemmy, and even smaller places? Yes. In fact, bots are causing a growing number of small sites to experience what is, essentially, DOS attacks, because of how much traffic suddenly hits the site once the scrapers/auto account makers/etc. have found it.
