I see your point, I do. But I also see theirs. There will be no one around in the future to enjoy or make art if we continue fucking up the world with fossil fuels the way we are.

Maybe it’d be better to walk around posting little signs on the paintings descriptions with a catch phrase like “like art? Stop fossil fuels” then a little blurb about how there’ll be no art in the future if there is no future.

That’s probably how I’d handle it, maybe even try to work with the museum so the signs wouldnt get taken down. But, that doesn’t get media attention. It’d never end up in the news. Maybe after contacting 50 museums it’d get a small mention, but ultimately no one would care.

Our current news cycles don’t encourage people to act civilly when trying to be heard. So that’s why this sort of extreme behavior keeps happening. It’s a vicious feedback loop and just like climate change we don’t seem to be making any moves to stop it.

Unfortunately what your asking of people requires personal sacrifice, and people will mentally go all over the place to resist that.

A personal anecdotes is that I’m no longer in contact with my family because I refused to see my racist grandfather on his deathbed and didn’t attend his funeral.

My grandfather was an abusive, literal stereotype of a racist(would say things like “them n-words down the road are fucking up this town”) and a raging alcoholic. The world is better because he’s fucking dead. Now I don’t have a family of origin because I wouldn’t pretend he was a good person.

Men will lose friends and family if they start calling this shit out. It’s hard. You get told to “mind your business” or "it’s just a joke " or get your masculinity questioned. Or the whole “but they’re family” thing. I get why people resist it. No one wants to lose their social support, but often that’s what it comes down to, and they’ll make it feel like you’re the one who’s in the wrong the whole time.

Social pressure is a hell of a thing. I think framing the context around why men don’t call this stuff out will help them recognize why they should.

The optimist in me wants to think that maybe one of those viruses can be used to cure some other diseases via genetic modification.

The pessimistic part of me wonders if this will be the start of a pandemic cycle that never ends until most people are dead.

This is why I’ll probably never travel unless I can take a boat or something. Crying babies aggravate my misophonia to such a severe degree that I will do everything in my power to not be trapped in a small space with even one(no i dont have children.)

So airplanes are a no go. Basically anywhere else I can remove myself. But in a plane you’re stuck. I know babies can’t help crying, and I can’t help my reaction, but I can also choose to not get on a plane. Babies go where their adult takes them.

If I can logically parse out that airplanes aren’t a mode of transit I can tolerate maybe others should do the same. Then maybe kids won’t get locked in freaking bathrooms over this shit.

I wrote this on another post about this topic, but i think it’s worth repeating.

The women of India formed the Gulabi Gang because this problem has gotten that bad.

If you read interviews with their founder it’s really upsetting just how common rape and domestic violence are in India and how little law enforcement cares.

I think it’s more helpful to listen to women who live in India who have experienced this sort of violence. I think it’s better to be informed on their reality rather than speculating on the situation as foreigners.

You could look up the gulabi gang. It’s a group of women who fight to protect other women from violence.

Edit - I think it’s best if we listen to Indian women speak on the problem. The first time I heard about the gulabi gang and why they exist I was horrified.

Remember when companies primarily used to try to monetize our happiness and comfort? Doing things like associating their brands with good times and shit?

There’s also the fact that there are hormone variations across cisgender people.

Wasn’t there some sort of controversy a few years ago where a cis woman participant(cant remember if it was the olympics or not)tested high in her natural testosterone levels and was prevented from competing because it gave her an advantage or something?

So it’s possible for some cis women to have naturally higher testosterone levels than some trans women.

Hormones are a lot more complex than we think and I feel like all these keyboard endocrinologists are overconfident in their understanding of hormones and how they effect the body.

Experts are still studying this stuff, and if they say there’s no significant advantage I’m inclined to believe them. Besides, most anti trans people didn’t give a fuck about women’s sports until it gave them an opportunity to be hateful.

Drones wouldn’t scare the shit out of local wildlife and people’s pets at the very least.

Reddit is going to end up just being trolls arguing with bots and corporate shills… if it isn’t already. I haven’t been there in a long time, but I’m fairly confident in that assessment.

What i really wonder about is how long a site can profit off of the majority of activity coming from bots. I’m not tech savvy enough to know if the analytics can tell the difference between a bot posting and a person. How long can that go on before the site stops being profitable via ads? Will companies pay to advertise to bots? Would they even know? It’s kinda funny to think about honestly.

It’ll be really interesting to see how reddit’s downfall comes to be though.
