I have it on my PS TV, which I’ve been using to play some of my classics on my TV that doesn’t have room for big consoles.

I’m so much more competent as an adult. So I’m enjoying some games a lot more as an adult. I also have less time. So some grindier games I am not enjoying as much.
Yes, I meant obtaining a copy and emulating it. If you can’t show damages (it’s not costing them sales) then it shouldn’t be punishable.
That’s what I’ve been saying for awhile. If it’s not readily available after a certain amount of time, for a certain amount of time, emulation should be 100% legal. Sell it to me or fuck off.
I don’t think it even makes sense financially. There’s not really a first part for people to get excited about compared to Midgar in 7. 9 is more of a full package game.
I think it made sense for 7. Midgar was the most interesting set piece and a ton of stuff happens there. But it’s only like 10% of the game.
Then you collect side characters like infinity stones and to through a bunch of their individual stories.
Then the actual story happens.
Also, 7 is popular enough to support the split up.
This doesn’t make sense for 9. Also, isn’t it supposed to be a 1 for 1 remake?
17 U.S. Code § 1201 - Circumvention of copyright protection systems
Well that’s interesting. It does say the law won’t override fair use. But I assume it blocks it regardless.
So you’re saying, because it would rip straight to another cartridge, it could be argued it’s streamlining distribution?
I would hope that a court would see through that argument. There’s a pretty good track record of allowing personal use of personal property. But I wouldn’t be surprised either if they convinced a court that this was explicitly for distribution purposes.
Is it illegal to rip a game that you own onto a device that you own? My understanding is that’s 100% legal, not gray area at all. The only issue would be if you distributed it.
If we don’t include backwards compatibility, PS1 easily. So many iconic and underrated RPGs from that time. If we do count BC, it would either be PS2 or PS3 by technicality.
Do you have a lot of UMD games? I got a PSTV (the Vita console), hacked it to use expanded memory (just follow the steps you can find online), and repurchased most of my physical catalog digitally. I think a lot of those games are locked at $10 since the store can no longer receive updates.
I still have my 1000 for physical. But even then, Vita incompatible games like Crisis Core and Spyro (for some reason the PS1 game isn’t compatible with Vita) are available on my PS5.
I want that controller. Also, a faceplate for my (original version) PS5 would be cool.
I love the ever expanding classics catalog for Premium, in addition to the rest of the games offered. If they hadn’t jacked up their prices, I’d probably still be subscribed.
I definitely played SMB this year. I may have played Pac-Man.
But I also played mancala which is 8,000 years old.
I just played Mancala the other day which may be up to 8,000 years old.
There are some very memorable games.
No game has ever matched the freedom of Morrowind. You are only limited by yourself. Even Oblivion and Skyrim feel restricted by the game itself.
Half-Life 2 interacting with the environment. I must have played with the can for hours the first time.
Final Fantasy VIII though was the single most impressive game for the hardware it came out on. The character models being actual human proportion, the summons looking like actual monsters, and the FMVs where people look like damn people in a movie.
In the same vein, FFX being described as looking like FFVIII’s FMVs but all the time. And then living up to the hype.
Since you mention it, I do see some similarities with VII. Although I think IX does a lot of it better than VII. Kuja actually has a connection with Zidane and rooted in jealousy. Where Cloud’s obsession is the opposite and rooted in revenge (the clone part in particular ending up being a false flag for Cloud).
I think a lot of the similarities are superficial. The actual story is quite different. But it’s interesting to see common tropes in Final Fantasy games. Lost memories, for example, is extremely common.
Tetra Master is almost a lot of fun. It just needs to turn down the RNG and not be so mysterious with digit meanings.
I liked the story. Although most of the substance is late-game, which is common for FF games. But I thought it was pretty solid.
Character writing is definitely top-tier. The style is perfect for PS1 too. I think it has aged the best of the PS1 games.
I love a lot about IX. However the combat is much slower than the other games. IIRC, an attack has to complete entirely and the character returns before the next character goes. While in VIII, the next queued attacker starts moving before the last one finishes their movements. Additionally, IX has 4 characters in battle. If you’re bring strategic, it can be very slow moving. Also, every boss has a valuable steal, but chances of stealing it are low. So if you take the bait, you will spend a lot of time repeatedly trying to steal. Also, your abilities are tied to your equipment unless you grind out enough points to unlock them, meaning you either keep bad equipment, upgrade and abandon abilities, or grind until the abilities are unlocked.
Also, the chibi-style art isn’t for everyone. I had more issues with 7’s style. But it’s a preference.
I feel the opposite. The rainbows give me a fisherprice vibe on a fake PC. The purple looks classy and it looks like a first party console
