The only reason I could see the government moving against it is if there are high-visibility press stories about the unsavory fediverse instances.
Yes I agree—a big part of choosing an instance is who they are defederated with.
It would be kind of cool to be able to define yourself the function that decides this for your account.
Whether you have something to hide depends on those in power. The people in power now setting the rules won’t be the same in several years.
“Oh I’m doing ok, how are you?
Duckduckgo actually uses Bing for search results. Unless something changed.
Agreed. I know that many moderators around here have never modded before, and no doubt some admins have not dealt with growth on this scale. Good job y’all!
I have run both Plex and Jellyfin and I much prefer Jellyfin. I got sick of Plex content being interjected into my menus and feed. Plex also had issues seeing my server which was inconvenient. I now run Jellyfin with Infuse as my client. Love it so far.
Dumb question I know, but do I leave this running on my instance or on my own computer?
I have thought this many times for different people. But an image comes in my head of the two of us standing awkwardly away from each other not knowing what to say or do. Me feeling guilty for not trying to reach out earlier than I did.
Votes counts seem to always be in a state of syncing/flux. The vote counts on personal instance are always significantly different than on lemmy.world.
I always wanted Kid Pix. We played with it on Macs in the computer lab when I was a kid. But our family could not afford the program or the computer.
I’ve been trying to figure this out myself. The best I can come up with is that Meta wants to increase their user base as fast as possible and this is one way of doing it.
Another thought I had is that they could be thinking of getting Twitter to add ActivityPub, and then federating with Twitter. Meta could then claim all users can use their platform.
Huh. I’m surprised it’s around the same as Facebook. Two additional facts I’d like to know about the other social networks in order to make a comparison:
leaving a husk of the fediverse behind
Even if everything you describe happens, that “husk” will be what we have today, probably even bigger. I’m okay with that.
Shrug. Welcome to the community, admin.
Just an idea. You could try hosting and using these apps on a VPS from a cloud provider to find out what your needs are.
That’s where the protest is. The bare minimum.
Agree agree agree. Mod away, but let garbage, dupes, and low effort stuff gradually fill up the sub. See how the userbase reacts to neglectful moderation.
That’s weird it wasn’t in the job posting. Seems like they’re wasting their time talking to candidates that aren’t interested in on-site.
I only want remote. The company I work for was once extremely remote friendly. Like 75% of job postings from them were for remote. Now they’ve changed to hybrid or fully on-site at the word from the CEO and like only 5% of open roles are remote.
They kept me remote, but my interactions with others are much less remote friendly. I’m looking for a new job, but will have to be for a company that is mostly remote itself.
