I don’t see that as any more desirable than a US or Russian CEO doing the same. It’s all wage slavery for the people generating those profits, and it’s all gravy for the CEOs to funnel into offshore accounts. Only funding a worker coop would make it more ethical and desirable, regardless of geographic location/regime, IMHO.

Wouldn’t the surplus profit just go to the CEO of the company? I can’t imagine there’s much difference for the average worker in China between mass manufacturing PC’s for direct sale vs. Mass manufacturing for another brand.

JPEG is getting old long in the tooth, which prompted the creation of JPEG XL, which is a fairly future-proof new compression standard that can compress images to the same file size or smaller than regular JPEG while having massively higher quality.

However, JPEG XL support was removed from Google Chrome based browsers in favor of AVIF, a standalone image compression derived from the AV1 video compression codec that is decidedly not future-proof, having some hard-coded limitations, as well as missing some very nice to have features that JPEG XL offers such as progressive image loading and lower hardware requirements. The result of this is that JPEG XL adoption will be severely hamstrung by Google’s decision, which is ultimately pretty lame.

I guess, at least for me, Policenauts looks pretty meh compared to the high that is Snatcher, and I suppose I’ve gotten more picky as to what I spent time with as I’ve gotten older, but that’s just me! If you found a lot of enjoyment out of it, then I can’t really say it’s not worth someone else’s time, so maybe it deserves a re-release indeed. :)

Eh, from what I saw in SuperBunnyHop’s video on the game, we’re really not missing that much. It’s an interesting curiosity for Kojima fans, but his previous work in that style of game, snatcher, is far superior.

So Arweave is literally just Peertube with another brand new crypto on the backend to incentivize people to start using it and ultimately ‘sell’ their hard-drives to the blockchain to be used to host the video content. Otherwise, you need to pay to ‘permanently’ store your content on the blockchain for a baked in 200 years worth of storage time (so, I imagine that will be rather high).

It should also be noted that in the FAQ regarding what will happen to LBRY Coins once this new crypto replaces it, they simply say “It’ll still be yours to do with as you please!”, I.E, this shit is worthless now since nothing will use it, but hey, it’s your shit, and that counts for something!

Again, I would highly recommend viewing Folding Ideas video on the subject if you haven’t yet. This is ultimately going to be another thing that makes the creators a tremendous amount of money, but will ultimately crash and burn for everyone else.

Foward Research is a crypto blockchain company that owns Arweave, which as far as I can tell is trying to incorporate crypto into a cloud data storage service. It’s all very vague, but that’s what I sussed out.

I wasn’t aware that odysse was originally a crypto video sharing platform, I thought it operated more like YouTube.

Forward Research also bought solarplex, which they boast as having sold “over 120,000 NFTs”, which tells me all I need to know about their intentions.

I’d steer way clear of this, nothing good can come of it, and if you have any doubts, watch Folding Ideas NFT video.

The article is pretty well laid out, IMO. It sets up the story with background information of who Ken Williams is, the history of the Police Quest series and the Sierra hacker/stoner culture, then goes into Daryl Gates and his background, and finally how Ken hobnobbed with him and pushed hard for him to be involved despite the resistance of the game devs. It then goes into how the game that Daryl advised on was deeply influenced by his racist views, which Ken had no trouble publishing, and even hoped would generate controversy for profit.

It gives all the context needed for non-sierra fans and for people not familiar with Daryl Gates, and doesn’t really have any fluff or repeating points.

Ken Williams has generally been pretty well regarded, especially by Sierra fans. He was even included in the old Hackers: Heroes of the Computer Revolution by Steven Levy, so I think it comes as somewhat surprising that he was so easily swayed by Rush Limbaugh back then, and shifted so far right wing to the point of purposefully working with a cop so heavily associated with systemic racism and the Rodney King beating.

It certainly was news to me, as someone who grew up with those games.

The National Post is a right leaning publication, and this article uses quotes from a Republican appearing on Fox News to provide context for figures sourced from the Daily Mail, which is owned by immigrant hating Rupert Murdoch, who also owns Fox News.

The article also mentions some lawyer telling Voice of America something, but the source link only takes you to Voice of America’s website, not to any specific article. It’s possible this was done intentionally to hide when that event occurred, because VOA was a mouthpiece for the Trump presidency when he was in office after installing loyal right wing followers in leading positions.

Can’t disagree with that. I’m struggling to see how there’s a big market of people who want to collect physical games for a wide variety of systems, but not the consoles themselves.

I guess it would be for someone who wants a collection of physical games, but doesn’t have room for the consoles? It does seem like an odd thing to want.
