  • Nice, reasonable explanation comrade! Just in case anyone didn’t know, TheDeprogram has a good wiki page on whataboutism that covers this nicely as well.

But yeah, people will find that we communists do criticize socialist governments, past and present, and do find flaws in China’s system. You just have to come to the communist subs and read around, or ask honest questions. But on platforms like this, where obvious lies, biases, and if nothing else, just one-sided reporting is rampant, we need to balance out the rhetoric. Of course capitalist countries (past and previous) have jailed journalists and those that have pushed back against American imperialism. Native Americans, Middle Easterners, Mexico, are just a short list of those that we constantly oppress.

China keeps making the news because western media keeps putting them in the news, even if it is for things that the USA or western Europe is also currently doing (You don’t think the USA and Europe don’t ban websites, do you? Have they ever forcefully sterilized people? Yes. Have they ever taken journalists prisoners… obviously yes… Oppressed religions? Duh… The list goes on and on). Calling out these non-western nations for doing these things is simply adding fuel to the fire to create a monolithic opinion that the USA or Europe is the best place on earth.

If you are on Elysium, things looks pretty great, and you can look down upon the others and judge them easily, while extracting their resources and causing their struggles in the first place. Being taken out of your bubble feels really uncomfortable, but it’s the first step in learning.

  • Please keep your eyes open in the future to the media also using these terms. For example, every single time a peaceful protest gets pushed by the police into going violent. See how the media uses extremely charged verbiage during those situations.

Or how about every single time China or North Korea or Russia is brought up. No matter what the news story is about, they will always be labeled the bad guys. And sometimes they are, but sometimes they’re not.

Notice how the media will always talk about their “regimes” compare to our “government”, their “worker camps” vs our “prisons”. By the way our prisons also do force labor, and also torture people. How come our prisons aren’t worker camps? Or torture camps?

You’re going to see this if you keep watching osely, Communists have been talking about politically charged rhetoric for a very long time. We started calling out the government for using biased language long ago. See: Michael Parenti, for starters.

  • I think you’re negative votes speak for themselves, but this is pretty obviously showing that there is Media bias.

I mean obviously it’s nearly impossible to prove that the media is not biased, what would a test for that even be? But showing where similar events get wildly different coverage does lead towards evidence that the media is biased.

Now, of course, the media can’t cover literally everything equally all the time. But let’s be honest, we know where the military lies, we know what the government is saying in official speeches, and we know what the media is pointing to. When everything lines up, it’s pretty fucking obvious.

  • And it’s single minded liberal thinking that makes you believe that these things are mutually exclusive, and putting words into my mouth to say things I never said.

How difficult is it to flip a switch in educate one and a half billion people? How long does that take for it to take effect? How can you get high quality education into rural societies that may not even have access to the internet?

This is the problem with liberals, there’s only one solution isn’t there? Everybody believes the same thing, right? The solution that works for me will work for everyone…

Of course access to sex ed and condoms will help, I believe that. And China is now doing that too. But that’s so easy to Google, I know you didn’t even try. They didn’t need to tax multiple kids forever, they needed to slow it down quickly. And they’ve removed that tax.

Westerners use taxation to incentivize or decentivize action all the time, is that authoritarian? Please, for one fucking second, turn your excellent deduction skills (lol) inward onto yourself for a moment.

  • China: we are worried about overpopulation, we will tax over 1 child

    Westerners: authoritarian!

China: Birth rate slowed, stopped the tax, has 1.4 billion people

Westerners: ugh you have too many people! Irresponsible!!!

    🙄

USA is still accountable for more c02 pollution in the atmosphere than any other country. And keys be honest, USA and Europe are responsible for most of the pollution of all kinds in the world. Please break out of your bubble…

  • Thanks for dropping the facts comrade. It’s hard for some people to understand that having 1.4 billion people means you can’t compare apples to apples with USA or Europe. China is by far working the hardest on lowering their carbon footprint.

And yes, I’m considering the SocDems in Europe, those people don’t use a lot of energy because they produce nothing. If their overseas manufacturing plants produce carbon, it’s not part of their footprint, on paper. China produces many things, their footprint matters to many countries.

  • In theory you could wait for evidence that this costs them time and effort, or you could do it proactively. In the situation where it doesn’t cost that much, it doesn’t cost you much because it’s literally two buttons. In the situation where it costs them time and effort, well that’s the goal so awesome.

As someone who works as a software developer, I know that not all “automation” is created equal, or set up correctly, or “fully” automated. Considering they give themselves 7 days to do it, they are likely responding in a ticket queue of some sort, so even if it’s not super time consuming, there likely is manual intervention somewhere.

It’s two buttons on our side. It’s worth it to me. Also, this way I can copy down my history somewhere off Reddit, so that I can search it myself without going back there.
