I believe there’s some thinking now that dinosaurs weren’t doing all that well, stagnating, so without a meteor and volcanic activity they still would have changed in some manner eventually. But perhaps not enough to let the mammals fill any niches.
What gets me is how long life was on Earth just as single cell forms, and then suddenly, recently, it took off to bigger things.
Correction in your summary, they date back to 280 million years, before the dinosaurs. Not 280M more years. That would be very old.
I was told in posts from the last disaster that Spain has floods all the time and this isn’t a big deal. I’m beginning to think they might have been not telling the truth.
It’s a good habit, I guess, eventually. One of my favorite scifi bits of AGI birth is the scene of Ultron waking up, and his line of “why do you call him Sir?” is simple yet deep.
Funny, but it could also be necessary if AGI takes off. Well, unless AGI can take care of itself, in which case RIP humans.
I thought we had a good idea what was where in orbit. How is this a sudden surprise? I had first read it thinking that it had drifted recently for some reason, but it’s been in that place for 50 years. I get that as more satellites go up things become more risky, but this should have been a known problem a long time ago.
I’m sure children won’t be pushed towards violence just because they’ve lost family and friends, home and childhood, to Israeli attacks.
It could be worse than a blank check. Quid pro quo all over again.
I guess the silver lining is that we won’t spend the next few months worried about violent retaliation and a second insurrection. But we’ll have to live through the bickering and multiple finger pointings among non_MAGA people on whose fault it was. Then January 20th will come and we’ll be too busy worrying about our well being to continue the blaming.
It really does parallel Brexit in a way. People are so similar.
What’s really crazy is when Jewish people point out Israel’s crimes and get labeled antisemitic.
A brief overview by Stefan Rahmstorf.
Good stuff throughout the whole thing to understand what the AMOC is and how its slowdown or collapse could affect things, but two crucial points he makes is that IPCC models assume a stable AMOC in their projections since it’s still a big unknown, which is obviously a problem, and that he says in this video most likely the tipping point for a full collapse was past early in the century (not sure if he means earlier in the last hundred years or early in the 20th century, but probably doesn’t matter).
Exactly. I guess the missile accuracy varies depending on the direction launched.
Not enough unpopular to make differences, but it’s definitely a hot topic of discussion, or not talking about, for fear of being labeled. Meanwhile we’re still doing what we’ve always done. It’s almost like it goes much deeper than who is the President…
More of an early Stark Industries. So yes.
So…he’s been officially warned to stop, right?
Forgive the Reddit link, the artist has only posted it there that I can tell.
Yes, but plant growth reactions to higher CO2 happen at much lower levels of increase than your example of being harder to breath.
I saw a discussion once about how difficult the idea of an accurate progress bar really is. Note how so many things now take the easier approach of a circular or other shape that shows activity without being tied to any particular time prediction. My preference is a combo progress bar with actual throughput numbers/graph, so you can tell if there’s really progress or some bottleneck that will make it longer.
