  • I dont think this is enforceable under the current rules.

My landlord is an anonymous person living in China. For all I know they could be some large corporation. I only have a point of contact as a local Chinese owned real-estate company. They gave me the contact info to somone out in BC who they said was the owner.

I had to call with the person in BC when i moved in. that person who is on the lease as the owner, mentioned they where not the owner but the daughter of somone living in China who was the actual owner.

After a Google search they person I had spoken with turns out to be a “wealth and property manager” who apprently handles properties for investors. I suspect they are “the daughter” of a lot of clients looking to own property here.

So with foreign investors owning land via proxies who are themselves working through proxies. How do we even know who owns what anymore?

We need the standard leases to be mandatory and somthing that cannot be modified without exemption provided by a stronger landlord Tennant board.

I wonder if we could then make it so all leases needed to be registered with the board. Eatch requiring a lease recording fee wich could be used to fund the LTB. This whould also give them some power. If a landlord has a bad history, or is not providing proof of ownership they could just deny leasing agreements making landlords unable to rent out properties.

  • I get scam messages and calls regularly. Of these I’ve only gotten the hst return scam.

    Most common I get

    • the duck cleaning guys. Not sure why the want to clean ducks so badly but I don’t own any.
    • Bank has blocked your account…
    • customs fee scam
    • lady speaking mandarin while music plays.
    • also a lot of the ones where it’s just silence. I suspect these are attempting to build a voice profile for 11labs or somthing. I never answer unless spoken to first by a real human. Also got my parents trained on that scam.

  • That may actually be a life saver. With how complicated moving is getting. If you’ve moved around high rises a few times you know you could end up temporary homeless just because somthing failed.

You need to provide 2 month notice when moving out of most places. Yet to move in they often want you to sign a lease asap. So finding a place 2 months in advance is often impossible. You need to pay overlap rents in 2 places at once or take a huge risk of being homeless. If you don’t pay overlap and just hope a place is availble 2 months down the road you may be out of luck.

Having a place to stay for a month while you keep looking may be a good reason to avoid overlap and take the risk.

Mind you then you’d still need to move your stuff into storage. And then your paying the movers twice. So not the best option yet.

  • Agreed, I’m new too the community but I am sure if OP asked this in autism@lemmy.world it would be just fine. Folks there are very kind.

In my family we’d joke Star Trek was closer to our religion then any other nonsense. We’d at least have a ritual around gathering as a family to watch it. I’m the only diagnosed one but I assume my family is thick with Nerodivergency. Also I’m not even that into trek.

When I was about 6 my older brother told me Santa didn’t exist and I was like “yhea that makes sense”. He also mentioned God didn’t exist and again and I reponded “well of course not”. At some point in my life the existence of Santa was more believable then the idea of God.

Growing up I was exposed to so many differnt cultures, differnt Gods. I think they are all valid, it is important to be secular within reason. Honestly, I’ve been a part of enough nerdy Fandoms over the years to see the parallels. I’d no more insult the Christian God then I whould Picard.

More to the question though it may have to donwith the whole sense of community and belonging thing.

From my understanding churches are a pretty vulnerable experience, there’s signing (potentally loud singinging), confessing of sins, forced friendliness, and positive expressions, and higtened emotions. It seems incredibly socially draining. If I had to do that unto school I’d have had a considerably more breakdowns as a kid.
