No. It’d be very difficult to actually have humans go extinct. Bad things will happen, but extinction would require a Children of Men level situation.

I agree overall, but for Germany in particular, they have fewer opportunities for renewables than other countries. At the same time, their most plentiful source of home grown energy is coal which is worse in every way to the gas they were getting from Russia. The economy only matters in so far as it serves the people, but it unfortunately matters a lot for people’s well being, especially in the context of global capitalism.

What if you get the wrong person? Yes the perpetrator deserves terrible things, but in order to find and get the right people, we need to go about it in a systematic way. Locking people in jail rather than killing them has the benefit of allowing us to free them should they be exonerated and someone else caught.

It’s not about what’s deserved, it’s about what will lead to the best outcome. Retribution doesn’t necessarily solve problems.

The Chinese government does a ton of bad things, but slave labor doesn’t make much sense here. I don’t think it would have significant enough savings. Like the other person said, them not being as safe probably plays a bigger role. I would not be surprised if we see a large scale nuclear disaster in China within the next 50 years.

The failure of the Biden administration to attempt anything on immigration has been seriously disappointing. Better question might be when did non Christians get involved. Before recently, it was basically all Christians of different flavors who even got to play a role in politics. Secularism was more about not valuing one version of Christianity over others, at least that’s the sense I have. The role might have changed but it’s always been a major force.

Except I hate all the terrible shit America does and have no delusions about its terribleness. Two things are similtaneously true about Taiwan. They do not want to be under the control of mainland China and deserve to live free from oppression. Yet, under the rules based international system of sovereignty that is not based on popular sovereignty, mainland China has a substantial claim to Taiwan. This doesn’t make their claim ethical or morally right as the system itself was made by imperial powers.

China is in part terrible because it has to exist in the terrible international system of imperialism and global capitalism. They needed to adopt the practices of global capitalism, imperialism, and nationalism to compete on the world stage and avoid being victims of imperialism. This doesn’t make China the heroes, as they do the evil themselves, but it explains some of the evil. I don’t know how to dismantle a global system, but only a fool would take China’s word that they’ll totally do communism in the future, especially when they have so many tools for enslavement.

I haven’t. People were justified in their anger, and let that anger out in the way they could. That’s why you shouldn’t give people a reason to be justifiably angry and instead meet the needs of the people without abusing them. The acquittal of those cops told people that the law didn’t apply to law enforcement. If the law doesn’t apply equally, why should it be viewed as anything other than tyranny?
