Propaganda strikes again
Propaganda strikes again
Hi friend, I’m Bob from Ohio (or maybe Florida!). Anyway, I promise there’s nothing to worry about… other than the billions of human flesh eating illegal immigrants flooding across the border to torture your family for their sadistic pleasure. Just vote for Trump and everything will be fine!
I don’t want governments controlling what we see, hear, and say.
Might want to find a new instance
Because the Fediverse is a great target for propaganda, which is invaluable for some authoritarian countries.
Lemmy is an echochamber with relatively limited, uncoordinated moderation. 1,000,000+ monthly active users, and lemmy.ml is a flagship instance.
It’s a bummer. I love the idea of the Fediverse but it’s having some propaganda growing pains.
Hard disagree, they’re here and able to operate relatively freely with no central admin fighting disinformation.
They’re not delusional, they’re paid.
Yeah… it’s a bot
I think this is too nuanced for lemmy.ml to handle, they prefer black and white
More like another Afghanistan, like the one the broke the USSR.
Except Russia has already lost ten times as many troops in a fifth of the time.
Weird to see a non-biased post about this conflict with a respectable news source on Lemmy.

That’s propaganda, the Kremlin knows NATO isn’t going to invade them. If they wanted to, they’d do it now while the Kremlin can’t even stop mercenaries marching on Moscow.
What do you mean specifically when you say “the media”?
Yes I think you’re right about the Kremlin’s approach: they exacerbate weaknesses that are already there.
They understand Kremlin oppression.
Yes fair enough
Should have happened 6 months ago
If someone invaded your country and started murdering people you’d want to win the war.
divide and conquer
Bingo. I wish more people would see this, it’s shameful how badly democracies around the world have been caught with their pants down.
Authoritarian governments have a huge advantage when it comes to malicious propaganda. So much less oversight.
Because YouTube is one of the more effective places to spread propaganda.
