  • Wait, I’m assuming you’re from somewhere in Europe, you don’t have topical antibiotics available without prescription?!

I wouldn’t argue against antibiotics being overprescribed in America, they definitely are. The tendency is for medicine to be prescribed if a patient sees a doctor. Another crappy consequence of an expensive medical system, people won’t be satisfied if they spent hundreds of dollars only to be told to rest and drink lots of fluids.

US friends of mine “keep” their remaining prescription ABs for when they are sick again

This is definitely a thing that morons do over here 😂

  • Yep, at least that’s how I understood it. They are able to change the thermal conductivity of specific parts of the chip which then allows more heat to be redirected into those specific areas than what they experience in conventional chips.

The actual processor cores generally are the largest heat source, where as auxiliary components are relatively cooler. This technology theoretically will heat those cooler areas by transferring heat away from the cores, which in turn cools the cores down.

The current research was done at the transistor level though, which means there is a significant amount of time and work required before complete chips will actually be able to implement this cooling method.

  • A $900 laptop that

    • has days of battery life and an ARM processor
    • Ran x86 apps with near-native speeds *Still beat all of its competitors in benchmarks back in 2021 when I got it
    • Did all of this without a fan
    • is extremely compact and lightweight, fitting in every bag I have
    • well made with a good keyboard, trackpad, and screen
    • Will last me for years

Do me a favor, look at what 13" laptops were for sale in late 2021. Find any of them that competed on price and performance. The M1 MacBook air was one of the best received apple laptops, specifically because it was unbeatable at that price.

The only negative was it only running macOS, but Apple allowed 3rd party firmware to be installed. Now mine uses coreboot to boot into fedora 39. The only thing that doesn’t work is deep sleep and the speakers, with good progress being made by the development team.

There’s plenty of criticism for Apple and their obscene pricing, but the one laptop purchase I never regretted was this one.
