It also got me through half of a stay in a hyperbaric chamber when I got the bends, and I’m very claustrophobic, so big credit to it there. I already use Stop the Madness for this, and probably will continue to as it’s a more global solution, but having it built right into the search engine at least shows they’re taking real steps to hand control back to the user.

I can’t say why Peterborough specifically, but it would not be surprising if small towns in general were being targeted for this sort of recruitment effort.

The bigots are easier to target in a smaller pool. They come right out, group up and make themselves known.

Also a lot of small town Canada is a cross section of people who are (a) mostly from a singular culture with little exposure to others and (b) see any prospect of change as a threat to their way of life. These are easy vulnerabilities to exploit, unfortunately.

I don’t really think there are more bigots in small town, they’re just so much more obvious about it. And the majority decent folk have to live here, so you really have to be careful about choosing your battles when you know you’re going to have to see these people all the time, and if you challenge them they will remember you, and go out of their way to make your life difficult.

Yeah for me, the only draw back to reddit is in its history. There is a wealth of knowledge in those archives, and when I’m looking for balanced and useful answers from actual people (without affiliate links or bot-generated seo bs, or being “marked as duplicate” of another post with 13yr out of date answers lol) it was the best source for the longest time.

Used to be, anyway.

When I do open an r/ link that answers my question now, I’m doing it with their tracking, “features” & ads fully locked & blocked, then dipping right back out again. They really ruined a good thing.

You can bump global text size up with the slider at the bottom of that screen without enabling the Larger Text toggle

I like my system font size to be on the smaller side though, so being able to customize by app is a big QOL upgrade

• ability to see which instance I’m logged into at a glance (memmy has this in the feed topbar)
• inbox functionality
• search (communities, posts, users, all)
• other user profile pages (incl ability to message, block)
• tap to open images, pinch zoom, save/share
• markdown buttons in the text editor

Missing from both:

• ability to hide thumbnails in compact mode
• text size scaler
• ability to hide read / swipe to hide individual posts
• swipe from device right to go forward (like device left goes back)
• own profile page with ability to see all my posts and comments, edit/delete, saved items etc.

Honestly at that point I’d just delete the mail app altogether, quit my job and join a forest commune

I’m super pissed about this.

I have a ton of client domains registered with google, and squarespace’s pricing is double.

They had by far the best platform I’ve used for managing domains. This sucks.

Memmy was easily my app of choice, but these are some big improvements so it’s between these two for sure now.

Each has important features the other doesn’t, but both are steaming ahead at a record pace. I know all about how the tiniest feature can take ages to code properly, so I’m really appreciative of all the work being poured into making lemmy more friendly.

Especially for us who had apollo set up just right for all our own personal idiosyncrasies lol
