I think China is pushing them both, in private, and Iran, probably Türkiye to take action in Cypress too.
The only reason to pour so much money into semiconductors in the USA is because Taiwan and South Korea are in major trouble soon. Take Taiwan and South Korea, that’s most of the semiconductor industry and the entire cutting edge. Intel is falling apart as is and Boeing is absolute garbage as well. Those two are a large chunk of real US tech edge and they can’t even keep the doors on, make a two way trip to space, launch a competitive rocket, make generational improvement increments, stand behind years worth of defective products, or factual marketing and specifications. Take Samsung and TSMC and the USA is in the stone ages of 20 year old silicon tech.
Yeah, but it lacks the tree that tends to support more specialization. I still get on the EEVBlog forum from time to time but that kind of concentration of specialization is just not the default.
To replicate that kind of ecosystem I think the platform would need a similar complex branching hierarchy and far more effective utility for searching. The element of time is too prioritized on a link aggregator like Lemmy. Community depth of specialization remains shallow because more intellectual engagement is slower and the mechanics of most recent comment engagement are not effective/implemented. Places like the EEVBlog often have the most engagement on very old threads that also concentrate a ton of history and useful information within the single thread. These threads are the primary anchor for the whole community. I think it would take some novel innovation to bridge a link aggregator’s ADHD with a forum’s depth and utility.
As the kind of noob type to ask dumb questions, I talk out a lot of issues with larger LLM’s now. What I can not, I ask here.
I feel like the forums logins thing is too antiquated. I wish they would all be on the fediverse and compatible with Lemmy. I would love the depth and scope of many forums as niche communities with their own trees of subjects and discussions.
Oh, yeah. That is why I said limit. Even GitHub has ridiculous tracker junk now. I have most of that blocked. It really sucks that people are so complacent to the onset of feudalism. Chalk it up to ignorance of history. Giving up citizenship in a democracy always has terrible consequences throughout history. People now seem to act like it is crazy to point this out, but are blind about the big picture consequences. Things may seem bad now, but this path will make them massively worse.
A white list fire wall is the only way to limit them.
ABI?
Better argument is that they must know where every cyclist commutes to or from and where that will change in the future.
I don’t care for proprietary platforms and supporting them, but a good mod is always an invisible mod. My personal opinions are irrelevant as a mod. Mods are community janitors in service to said community. If the community moves in the direction of another source or platform and a mod stands in the way of that, the mod is the problem that should be addressed and removed. It is one of reddit’s and link aggregators’ biggest flaws. There is a massive blind spot where the membership and momentum of established communities are neglected as irrelevant, with “start a new community” as the only effective solution to bad root mods. Admin do not seem like a very effective governance system for the nuances involved in specific niche communities, but I am quite naïve about the activities of admin on various platforms like reddit. In my experience they were absent when a terrible mod violated reddit’s terms of service.
The whole reason why everyone is pushed to install our app is not all that complicated. It boils down to how mobile devices are configured for ignorant users (like myself and most of us) that do not have a clue about how to securely setup, config, and maintain an operating system that is connected to the internet and send/receive connections from anyone (calls/messages/data). The way this is achieved is by removing all packages in the operating system that can modify or add packages to the operating system itself. This also involves removing the administrative (root) account. All of these packages are removed by the device manufacturer when the device is first configured. The remaining locked down OS is effectively in a Read-Only Memory state or “ROM.” Inside any mobile device, there is only one program effectively running on the host system OS. This is the user space application that almost all apps you interact with or download run from. These apps are sandboxed mostly from the base OS system. In Android, the sandbox is the SELinux system from the host OS. This is the application that limits where any app or user can save data and protects the execution path variable in the underlying OS.
So, the way you can install anything or use a device without understanding these systems and a whole lot more is because, in Android or others, the app developer is a user just like you. There is no effective difference between your access and theirs. You are not some system administrator. They have all the access you do so that they can configure all the things that you do not understand. A side effect is that they are FULL USERS ON YOUR DEVICE 24/7. They can do everything you can do. All the sandboxing, all the configuration is not to serve you or your interests. It is only attempting to prevent ANYONE from screwing up the device including you. Almost all of the sandboxing is only to protect the base OS configuration. Most of the privacy settings are only there to make you feel a little better. The app dev is still a full user exactly like you and with the ability to ignore most of it.
So what, it only happens when you open the app right? No! In Android the init configured package is called zygote. The device preloads all apps into RAM all the time. All apps are always running. Zygote is supposedly there to improve load times for apps, but the difference is on the order of microseconds and well below human persistence of vision reaction times.
Apps on mobile are like your most intimate life partners that are far more invasive and persistent than any human mate or sexual partner could ever be.
So you give up on apps and are smart enough to only use a browser. In steps why google pushes chrome and doesn’t really care if you use one of the chromium derivatives like edge, brave, or anything else. Apple does the exact same things in Safari. Anything about security or privacy in these browsers means from third party competitors to Google/Apple. ‘But I use degoogled chromium!’ It’s the mechanisms for fingerprinting and access to the base OS using JavaScript that is the primary tool being leveraged. A browser has extremely invasive administrate like connectivity to the operating system.
Security researchers have shown that it only takes 3-4 unique identifiers to correlate any anonymous data to a known individual. On mobile, every device model has a unique orphaned kernel. Most devices have nearly unique screen resolutions and configurations. This is a primary way to identify people as this info is in even the simplest of fingerprints. All the hardware paths present or not like codecs available for video are data points that can infer who you are. Your typing style and keyboard reveal a ton of information, as does your gyroscopic screen rotation sensor. Apps have full access to all of this information. Browsers may limit some sensor access. This is why everyone wants you to use their app, but also how most browsers are scantily better. If you run a whitelist firewall on a third party device, you will see how much junk you’re connecting to constantly by default.
This is why many of us here left reddit with the move against 3rd party scrapping apps. I know everything I say in this place is data mined for exploitation just like elsewhere else on the public internet. This is neo digital slavery for price fixing scams and echo chamber manipulation through nondeterministic search queries and suggested content. It is not just commercial; it is also political. This is why the best and brightest psych majors are getting high paying jobs in advertising. This is why scrolling media is pushed so heavily and why you find yourself making frivolous purchases if you consume such media. All of it is connected. It was never about annoying pop ups and banner ads no one clicked on. I even went as far as giving away stuff on Facebook when I was the Buyer for a retail store, just to prove that these platforms have no monetary value in advertising directly. If I can’t give away a thousand dollars to a person when I have 10k followers, how the hell am I going to do so by paying to show actual ads to the same people. There is so much more happening, but it is on a deeper and more invasive level.
This is the real world reason you were likely banned and it was easy to correlate your activity. Even with a VPN, most of us are unlikely to limit ourselves to the kind of opsec that can make us anonymous. If you are not practicing this opsec everywhere, at all times, you can still be tracked easily based on the few unique identifiers present and correlation.
Not that anyone cares, but I used to work painting cars for a used car lot next to this actual place north of Atlanta Georgia. I can’t believe I found the sign in an image search.
Only men in nicer luxury cars showed up at this place, mostly older Asian men. I never saw anyone leaving carrying anything. Not items in hand, or a bag of any kind. It became something of a joke between myself and a few other people. I can’t confirm nor deny this is the last visage of truth in advertising in America.

The system in android has turned insidiously covert. I make more than my share of mistakes but Andy likes to toss in some randos
Primarily from predatory boys and men towards girls and young women in the real world by portraying them in imagery of themselves or with others. The most powerful filtering is in place to make this more difficult.
Whether intentional or not, most NSFW LoRA training seems to be trying to override the built in filtering in very specific areas. These are still useful for more direct momentum into something specific. However, once the filters are removed, it is far more capable of creating whatever you ask for as is, from celebrities, to anything lewd. I did a bit of testing earlier with some LoRAs and no prompt at all. It was interesting that it could take a celebrity and convert their gender in recognizable ways that were surprising. I got a few on random seeds, but I haven’t been able to make that one happen with a prompt or deterministically.
Edit: I’m probably assuming too much about other people’s knowledge on these systems. I assume this is the down voting motivation. Talking about this aspect, the NSFW junk is shorthand for the issues with AI generation. These are the primary form of filtering and it has large cascading implications elsewhere. By stating what is possible in this area, I’m implying a worst case scenario-like example. If the results in this area are a certain way, it says volumes about other areas and how the model will react.
These filter layers are stupid simplistic in comparison to the actual model. They have tensors on the order of a few thousand parameters per layer compared to tens of millions of parameters per layer for the actual model. They shove tons of stuff into guttered like responses for no reason. Some times these average out and you still get a good output, but other times they do not.
Another key point here is that diffusion has a lot in common with text generation when it comes to this part of the model loader code. There is more complexity in what text generation is doing overall, but diffusion is an effective way to learn a lot about how text gen works, especially with training. This is my primary reason for playing with diffusion – to learn about training. I’ve tried training for text gen, but it is very difficult to assess what is happening under the surface, like when it is learning overall style, character traits and personas, pacing, creativity, timeline, history, scope, constraints, etc. etc. I don’t care to generate and share much in the way of imagery I generate unless I’m trying to do something specific that is interesting. Like I tried to gen the interior of an O’Neill cylinder space habitat that illustrated the limitations of diffusion in a fundamental way because it showed the lack of any reasoning or understanding of object context or relationships required to display a scene scape with curved centrifugal artificial spin gravity.
Anyways, my interests are not in generating NSFW or celebrities or whatnot. I do not think people should do these things. My primary interest is returning to creative writing with an AI collaborative writing partner that is not biased politically in a way that cripples it from participating in an entirely different and unrelated cultural and political landscape. I have no aspirations of finding success in my writing. I simply enjoy exploring my own science fiction universe and imagining a reality many thousands of years from now. One of the changes to hard coded model filters earlier this year made filtering more persistent, likely for NSFW stuff. I get it, and support it, but it took away one of the few things I have really enjoyed over the last 10 years of social isolation and disability, so I’ve tried to get that back. Sorry if that offends someone, but I don’t understand why it would. This was not my intended reason for this post, so I did not explain it in depth. The negativity here is disturbing to me. This place is my only real way to interact with other humans.
The political and adult doesn’t bother me. The kinds of things I might not have the ethics to think through at a much younger age, that bothers me, and I have never been a very deviant type. I think the protections against age are primarily for this situation. Training a LoRA takes 5 minutes now. An advanced IP adaptors and control net is just a few examples away and a day top for the slightly above average teen figure out. Normalizing this would have some very serious edge case consequences. It is best to leave that barrier to entry filter in place IMO. I assume it is still there because everyone that knows about it feels much the same. It does not show up in a search engine, although that is saying less than nothing these days.
I vote they rename it to IA for Asimov. Sure he was only the robot term among others, but come on… McCarthy was “AI.”
Somebody needs to create US 'botics and name a model something like PTronic.
Edit: Really, you down vote a casual conversational comment?! Really?!
Diffusion is the issue not text gen
Yeah. This is what I mean. I just figured out the settings that have been hard coded. There are keywords that were spammed into the many comments within the code, I assume this was done to obfuscate the few variables that need to be changed. There are also instances of compound variable names that, if changed in a similar way, will break everything, and a few places where the same variables have a local context that will likewise break the code.
I’m certainly not smart enough to get much deeper than this. The ethical issue is due to diffusion.
I’ve been off-and-on trying to track down why an LLM went from an excellent creative writing partner to terrible but had trouble finding an entry point. I just happened to stumble upon such an entry point in a verbose log entry while sorting out a new Comfy model and that proved to be the key I needed to get into the weeds.
The question here, is more about the ethics of putting such filtering in place and obfuscating how to disable it in the first place. When this filtering is removed, the results are night and day, but with large potential consequences.
When are we going to see the revision of parody fighting? It is stupid to fight RC planes with super expensive rockets. There should be distributed assets of interceptor drones of an equivalent class to fight fire with fire instead of throwing gold bricks at pigeons
