Playing OOT first is not necessary, you’ll pick up all the relevant plot without it. However, Majora’s Mask was made as a sequel to OOT, and having the knowledge of the OOT world and characters will underscore a lot of subtext in MM that you’d likely miss otherwise.

(Nearly) every character in MM is a character from OOT, but shifted one timeline over. They’re the same character but they aren’t the same people. Seeing what’s different between the two iterations speaks just as much as seeing what is the same.

What? I assume you’re referencing Meta, but Valve cooked their own VR solution years and years ago (Valve Index) and it’s pretty much the best one out there, and the software gets an update about once a week.

Well, not quite. If you dump the ROM of a game cartridge you have purchased and use that dumped rom to play your game that’s legal. If you pirate the ROM, that’s still illegal regardless whether you own the original game, however the end result is identical and there’s really not many ways to prove you didn’t dump your own roms.

Unless, of course, you don’t own a rom dumper and have an internet history of visiting rom sites. Even then it’s technically circumstantial evidence.

It did, yes. Emulators as a piece of software that does not do anything illegal are not themselves illegal. But piracy is illegal, and downloading roms of games you haven’t purchased constitutes piracy. But if you purchased a game and used an emulator to play it that’s a perfectly valid use case that falls within the law.

Misunderstood for sure, I think. The Wii U suffered from what was probably the worst marketing campaign of any game console, ever. I didn’t even know it was a new console and not yet-another-Wii-addon until halfway through it’s life cycle and I think that was a pretty common misunderstanding.
