  • You sound like my management. Hey, we gave you some money yesterday, why isn’t the 10-year-long project done today?

These things ramp up. Modernization takes time. We won’t see the true benefits until 80% of the way through the process.

To be honest, I bet they targeted this one billion just to show some progress. It’s probably not even related to the actual modernization efforts they’re going through. But if they didn’t show some progress, idiots would cut their funding because, like my management and old man dick, political funding has no staying power.

  • Then what would we call someone who makes the dietary choice but none of the other lifestyle choices? How would they identify in a restaurant setting? The answer is “vegan”. In the same way that I’m vegetarian but don’t care if I wear leather shoes.

I’m not saying you’re wrong, I’m saying that English lacks the words that would let you be precise. We need a word for people who are vegan in diet, and don’t care to bother the rest of the world about it. That’s why OPs question keeps coming up.

  • I don’t know your experience, but parents have the moral obligation to keep their kids safe and healthy. That sometimes requires that you get your kids to do things they don’t want to do. You can either do this with manipulation or with force. There’s no third option because kids don’t have the proper coping mechanisms to suppress their emotions and do what they’re required to do, even when they don’t want to.

That isn’t to say your parents did the right thing or that they were trying to keep you safe. I don’t know you. Maybe they were abusive. My point is only that manipulation is often the better of two bad options.
