Good news, medical science has discovered this great hack technique to ween yourself off Reddit successfully!

So far it’s had 100% success rate in all patients (me) who’ve had the treatment and you can do it easily in your own home too. The treatment is based on the Ludovico Technique where if you try to interact with Reddit in any way your body and mind will completely reject it.

The steps are as follows:

  1. Uninstall Reddit Enhancement Suite from your browser
  2. Set Reddit to Light mode if it isn’t already

That’s it!

The blinding white interface will readily induce extreme nausea and quickly train your eyes and brain to reject Reddit from your life. Furthermore, the lack of decent functionality and the tags you’ve given to obvious trolls and shills will make you want to jump out of the nearest window. It’s fantastic.

Also, if you decide after a few days you can push though the pain: don’t worry. After the detox period, the post quality between Lemmy and Reddit becomes self-evident. The click bait “engagement” content you were slowly introduced to will smack you over the head like a moist trout. Your eyes will assuredly be ready to explode from the light by that stage too and the pain of it all can only be relieved by deleting the Reddit bookmark from your browser.

All in all it’s a great technique and I wish you luck in your journey of staying sober too.

The tools people have created and used to cope with Reddit are simply amazing. It’s such a shock to see how badly the user experience has been neglected over the years in favor of the dumpster fire that “new” Reddit is.

I tried, tried to use old reddit. With RES, without RES, using all the recommended settings, tweaking it to my liking… I just couldn’t. It’s so ugly. I wanted to get into reddit before, but I could only do so when new reddit was launched, and I couldn’t believe I was browsing the same website. It’s a reason why I’m loving kbin.social over other fediverse alternatives.
