Yeah the UX leaves a lot to be desired, especially when there are alternatives - I really like Plex better, and am patiently waiting for Jellyfin to become more useable haha. But if I’m not at my computer, I’m using Plex which supports DV through my streaming devices, and if I am at my computer, I’ll just use MPV. But then again, that’s only for items that don’t have the hdr10 fallback. So it is honestly pretty rare.
Interesting. I on the other hand find the plex interface quite ugly - beside the fact that it’s not foss. Kodi has the advantage of skin support, I am using it with the embuary skin and it looks nice and does everything I want it to. I have also been using Jellyfin for the last 2 years or so, why do you say it needs to be more useable?
Well the app for apple tv doesn’t even let you turn subtitles on or off. It’s honestly totally useless so I don’t use it. I like that it’s FOSS but you can’t change any playback options. Kodi also isn’t available on apple tv unless you do some hacky shit which I’m not that interested in doing since plex is working fine. I would love nothing more than to ditch plex for jellyfin. But I’ll wait until it’s a little more fully baked
True, the native app for Android TV also has some issues with certain audio codecs although I believe it does have subtitle selection. I had the luxury of being able to choose a TV specifically for gaming as well as Jellyfin so getting one with android TV was a nobrainer and I am happily using Kodi now. Let’s hope the native apps mature enough to make them feasible alternatives :)
Yes, I think it will make it there, but it’s awful slow going. I’ve had Jellyfin set up for months and I still can’t use it. Plex for my use case is free anyway so I don’t mind sticking around with plex until jellyfin works out the rough edges.
I’m curious, what do you dislike about Kodi? Is it just that you want a light player to use with mouse and keyboard while sitting at your desk?

Case in point, the jellyfin for appletv, aka Swiftfin, hasn’t had a release in over a year
