Sarah Jama, an MPP from Hamilton-Centre, has been removed from the Ontario NDP caucus. This decision was made by NDP Leader Marit Stiles due to Jama’s unilateral actions that undermined the collective work and trust of her colleagues. Some of her actions were reported to have contributed to unsafe work environments for staff.

This decision coincides with ongoing censure proceedings by the Doug Ford government regarding Jama’s comments on the Israel-Gaza war, where she called for an end to “Israeli apartheid” and faced accusations of having a history of antisemitism.

Having an opposing view of the modern state of Israel is antisemitism?

If any other country does the same things as Israel does, it’s called debate and a difference of opinion.

If we’re debating about Israel … it’s called antisemitism.

The debate allows extremism to entrench itself on all sides …

        • actual antisemitics use the arguments against modern Israel to make their insane ideas more mainstream
        • those with an opposing political view of Israel are dismissed because no one is allowed to question Israel
        • Israeli political extremists are emboldened to do as they please because no one is allowed to stop them or question them
        • those that are occupied by Israel are not allowed to question their situation or fight for their cause (the term ‘fight’ here doesn’t mean indiscriminate killing of civilians … it also means political debate and protest at the international level)

No matter how you paint it … as long as the conflict continues, all sides equally win and lose and people just keep dying because no one wants an honest debate or resolution.

… even me just pointing this out places a target on my back

Staying the fact that Israel has been commuting apartheid is apparently anti-Semitic now.

I don’t especially agree with her, but I don’t understand why this was sufficient grounds to boot her out of caucus. From what I’ve seen she wasn’t encouraging violence or anything.

Apparently she agreed to a course of action with the NDP leader and then just went and said the opposite in public

I haven’t looked into her comments to evaluate what I think of them, but any part would be tempted to de-caucus anyone about to be censured so when the censure inevitably happens the news headline is ‘independent MPP censured’ instead of ‘NDP MPP censured’.

So nice to see the NDP caving to that piece of shit Foug Dord. This is why people don’t vote NDP, zero backbone.

I think it’s not so much caving as it focusing the narrative.

In opposition, where the government has a strong majority, the NDP only get so much time to push their agenda, and Doug will happily waste time harping on this Member, rather than field Marit and her caucus’ questions on his blatant corruption.

I’m livid. The Ontario NDPs are failing their constituents. I will not be voting for NDPs provincially from hereon, fuck this garbage.

Good. Whether valid or not, these sort of statements serve as a convenient distraction from provincial issues which is ONDP’s focus. They’re also used to sling mud at the ONDP as a whole, in an attempt to discredit the party. I don’t think this is doing any good to Ontario’s NDP or its supporters.
