Prosecutors said companies that had won lucrative government contracts during Martinelli’s presidency funneled money to a front company that was then used to purchase the publisher. The transactions involved a complex series of foreign money transfers totally $43 million. The front company collecting the money was called “New Business.”

Being a south american country, this guy could be out in a couple of years and able to run for president again. Just ask how Brazil did it… Corruption seems like a “must have” skill in a politician’s CV over there.

We shall see…But to me I’m not sure USA is doing a better job with Trump. I don’t get how he still isn’t in Prison.

Also imo, the privileged have access to better lawyers, and justice isn’t always blind or served equally in this world.

added: It’s good that the ex Panemenian president was found out for corruption and send to jail. And I really hope they tackle "corruption & faul play " in governments, and also in ngos, institutions and businesses.

      Btw, technically, Lula was acquitted.

Lula wasn’t acquitted though… He got out due to a technicality as a result of a “new” interpretation of the law. (read some level of corruption here) His last trial (after being found guilty 3 times) allegedly was supposed to happen in Brasília but instead happened in Paraná. The due process would be for the whole ordeal to restart but since he’s over 65 years old, there’s some lenience in the law that impedes the process to resume. This does NOT nullify anything that was proven in the other 3 trials (and also the 4th which was what put him in jail. There’s a lot of backroom deals happening all over government and the supreme court “allegedly” is in on the pie. Bozonaro had the chance to keep this corrupt ex-president in jail and forfeited it, himself being another corrupt president. But hey, love won didn’t it?! =)

I mean, technically Lula was not acquitted, he was just never convicted in the first place - due to that whole not having a fair trail thing, which is amazing that there are people who treat that like it’s nothing.
