Hey writers, please shut the fuck up about the standing ovations already. When every movie gets one, it’s not good headline material.
(Not criticizing you, OP)
Literally they are all around 6 minutes as well. This leads me to believe it is the standard expected behaviour at Cannes and not done kind of mark of quality. Like saying your Uber driver has 4.9 stars. That just means he doesn’t murder people.
Reminds me of the phenomenon described here where something that is meant to be a subjective measure of quality begins getting monitored and treated as an objective measure, so people stop being honest in their subjective assessment and start thinking about what the thing “deserves”
Can’t watch the video but I know exactly what you are describing and I wholly agree. It’s fine with me if standing ovations are just part of the tradition…but I’m tired of the headlines about it. I want to hear about the actual reviews.
Here is an alternative Piped link(s):

When the Coppola film initially got boos at the end, then a long standing ovation when the “in memoriam” card came up.
I just RIPped in honour, too.
I stood up in my living room and gave you a six minute standing ovation.*
Can’t wait for the lemmy post.
- I actually sat on the shitter and tugged one out instead.
