  • The bullshit that gets upvoted/downvoted here, does not get that on reddit. It’s really weird to see some of the cultural differences between the two platforms in terms of user base.

We drug animals for flights all the time, it’s practically a requirement. Until the age of at least 5, kids are essentially animals with just as little self-control

Not only do I think it’s ok to give them something that would help them sleep through it, I think it should be mandatory.

I don’t think this level of bullshit would fly in the reddit equivalent of r/worldnews

  • At literally every point of modern history, a reduction in the amount of humans was beneficial for the vast amount of humans in the long run.

Like, even the Black Death led to reduced wealth inequality and the beginnings of workers rights.

I don’t see how someone can claim that the mass death of people is simultaneously beneficial to that people.

There’s a difference in reduction of humans by events that cause death at large scale vs decline in rates of reproduction. Clearly catostrophic death is being used as an example of “a reduction in the amount of humans.”

  • Well I think Lemmy World, at least before lemeegrad was defederated from world, had a lot more socialist/marxist types being very vocal in the discourse trying to spin it in that angle. Also weird news sources seemed to be popping up a bit more in lemmy from al jazeera, turkey state media, and other socialist web sites. But I’m not sure if that is just because of how lemmy has less content so lower traffic stuff gets put up on my feed faster than reddit where I still have a lot of subs and a lot more content flowing.

When it comes to comments, both are similar in that it’s hard to have a moderate take that:

    1. Israel has justification and responsibility to go after Hamas in response to the massacre.
    2. Israel should be measured in their response to avoid civilian death, but they likely won’t.

  • Max Weber’s “The Protestant Ethic and the Spirit of Capitalism” goes into how protestantism cradled capitalist growth. But I think it’s a bit heavy handed to say folks support capitalist ideology. You don’t really support ideology. The ideology is what supports capitalism or is capitalism itself. But Protestantism is generally has individualistic beliefs. No longer does the clergy intermediate relation to God. Protestants believe individuals have a personal and individual relation to god. This sense of individualism can overlap with capitalist mentalities of individual success and profit.

But I think your use of ideology is too vague and understanding of religion is too generalized. You really need to talk about particulars of specific religious beliefs and particulars of specific attitudes towards capitalism. There’s not much to really comment on with such broad and vague brushstrokes.
